Israel’s national GLBT association receives award from President Shimon Peres

Israel’s national gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) association, the Agudah, has received an award for volunteerism by the President of Israel Shimon Peres.  That’s quite an achievement.  Read the story in Hebrew here or a translated version here.

  1. The current President of Israel has shown remarkable support – sometimes tacit, ofttimes active – for the GLBT community both in Israel and abroad.
In 2006, on the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO), the then President of Israel issued a letter to the community, expressing his concern and support.
Yesterday & today (23rd & 24th May) there is a “Queer” conference on, at Tel Aviv University and then at Be’er Sheva University.
The GLBT community is pushing ahead.
